The Story Behind “Second Chance”
By Holly Crisera

My dad always had a boat. He loved to take us to Moriches Bay on Long Island, New York. His first boat was a small outboard named The Mollusk. The first inboard came after he joined AA in the late 1980s—a boat he named Second Chance. It represented the second chance at life he felt he had been given through sobriety.

My father was a teacher for many years and after coming to Citrus County since the 1990's he retired in 2003 and purchased a home in Homosassa. There, his love for the outdoors took on new life as he produced several seasons of a fishing show, Nature Coast Outdoors, broadcast on WYKE and replayed for years afterward.

In 2015, he put his teaching experience to use again when he joined me in forming a business rooted in our shared passion to educate others on how they too could choose a different path. When it came time to choose a name, Second Chance was the perfect fit.

That name meant everything to my dad - and to me. Our logo is the life raft, a symbol of hope and survival and the hourglass, a symbol of time passing. It reminds us that time is slipping away and no one is guaranteed a second chance in life. But, when we are given one, we should grab hold and make it count.
